Pure L-ascorbic acid, vitamin C, was first prepared in 1928 by Albert Szent-Györgyi. However, it was not until 1932 that we discovered this substance was vitamin C.

Another study followed 46,994 healthy men for over 20 years. The goal was to determine whether vitamin C intake reduced gout. It found that people who took a vitamin C supplement had a 44% lower gout risk.
